VO said visa approved, will receive in 7 days
Jan 18: received a call from the consulate, said the petition number on the application is incorrect, and I need to resubmit the approval notice with fresh DS 156/157 at the Bangalore VFS drop box.
Has anyone else been through the same situation?
I checked a copy of the original DS-156/157, and there was no place to enter receipt number. The only place I could see was where the VFS pre-screening guys enter this number manually (first page DS 156 top right corner).
If this is due to their mistake, I will be very angry and will convey this to the consulate general.

Why do you think so...coz I'm in that state. My spouse who is the primary applicant got the card and my application is still in review ???

If a family member's derivative adjustment of status application has been pending in excess of 30 days from the approval date of the principal applicant's Form I-485, please submit to cisombudsman.publicaffairs@dhs.gov:

�A copy of the Form I-485 receipt notice for the derivative; and
�Any other evidence that is pertinent to the case.

My case is at the local USCIS service center. I opened an SR on Aug 12 and got an email response encouraging me to apply for an Infopass appointment: "We have determined that your case would have a better result if you make an appointment to visit your local office, so you may speak with an Immigration Services Officer about your case."
I now have an Infopass booked. Let's see what happens. My case is pre-adjudicated since we had an interview two years ago.
Should it go any further this way, can anyone please explain the process of Ombudsman / Congressman / Senator et al?

Lufthansa is another option for no transit visa, cheaper ticket than NW, Emirates or Singapore airlnies, little bit security check at Frankfurt when returning .....
with emirates, there is a route via dubai (no torture) and one via hamburg + Dubai. I traveled via the second one twice on emergencies. you are ushered in a square box of a building with barbed wires and armed (fully armed and body armored, hand gunned, you-mongrel-looking) guards. There is even a special
barbed wire line for 'special immigrant' (read asylum or illegal migrants) inside though i have not seen it used. then comes double wammy security checks (show-me-your-baby'smilk-is-edible type). There is one bathroom for each gender that has useless (over 10 months)faucets and one bar (no shop for food). the layover reminded me of concentration camps. But it was still better than $274 ;-)

Thanks for the replies fellas, this isn't a renewal I am talking about. This is the first time I have applied for an EAD. BTW, does anyone know what's involved in converting from H4 to EAD status i.e.
1. Do you need to apply for SSN before you take a job offer?
A. Yes, you can not start working w/o a SSN
2. EAD by itself is enough to accept employment?
A. No, refer to 1
3. Can you take jobs/resign as and when you please or do you have to somehow get back to H4 status if you quit job on EAD?
A. You can work wherever you want to.
4. Does use of EAD by H4, change non-immigrant status of H1 worker?
A. No, it does not.

how can it be free..when you pay 25/month?
I have vonage service since two years and i am paying 24.99/m since two years for unlimited US, canada and europe. They just added india in the international calling list so isn't it free? I am not paying anything extra for calling to india. I have been with vonage for quality and it is personal choice about which service you use and how much you pay for that. It all depends on usage and how much we spend on calling cards or calls to india. If you spend more than $25 on calling to india than this is a great plan if you have internet connection at home.

Let me make one thing clear. Govt has defined EB categories : EB1 , Eb2 and EB3 . based on level of exp and education etc..
Now that your employer has applied for you in Eb3 even though you were qualified under Eb1 or Eb2 then govt can't do any thing. Like if you are making 70k with 5 years exp and which is ok as per your labor cert of H1b then govt cannot do any thing . Even though u r less paid compare to market.
same thing here.. If you think you can qualify for Eb2 and your employer want to apply as EB2 . It should not be issue. You are most welcome to do so. But I see common ground as HR 5882. Why dont we work hard and hard to get HR 5882 pass. One of my friend has MS from USA from top uni. with 18 years of exp from India and 3 years of exp in big 5 from USA. Still his recent employer applied under Eb3 . Should he complained to govt ???

My $0.02. This could be a pre-emptive measure on the part of AILA. There must have been some talk at the state department of mid-month regression. This might be a strategy to scotch that. Raise a ruckus and send a message that we are prepared to file a law suit. Who knows? We are mere pawns in this grand game. Whatever happens, I hope people keep some perspective and not lose sleep over this.
