If a new H1B visa application does not run against the regular quota, I don't think he has to wait till Oct. When my H1B got approved (under quota), I started in 2 months - February in my case.

We have long way to go. People please contribute. If you are thinking that senate is on two week recess so nothing is going to happen then you are wrong.
Senate republicans will be working hard to come up with something that addressess the immigration problem. Senate republicans know that border security and immigration is an important issue and they just can not ignore it. So please contribute.
When you get GC your whole family will get benifit. Family of 4 contributing $100 to immigration voice means that per person you have contributed only $25.00. PLEASE BE GENERIOUS AND CONTRIBUTE ON BEHALF OF YOUR FAMILY TOO.
If you are single, please tell your friends to contribute too. Please remember that your success depends on how much you contribute. Don't wait for last minute.

The company I work in is a medium sized business organization. My boss is a staunch republican. I hope to make him aware of these 2 bills and request him to write to the locol congressman and the senator. If we can all do the same then we can buil substantial momentum towards getting these 2 bills passed. Since most of the businesses have republican leanings and at some time have contributed towards the GOP in some way, their endorsements can have a major impact.
I have written to my local HOuse rep; no response from him.
I agree with Alabaman. We need to coordinate and do something. Waiting and watching will get us nowhere.

Although we cite the cost savings (from renewal of EAD) most people if not all who prefer to keep H1 status will definitely renew their EAD/AP just to be safe. On the AP case, I got 3 copies of multiple entry APs. My attorney told me to make copies of it and give only copies at the POE and point out that it is a multiple entry document if the officer wants to keep the original, so that the original stays with you.
This is interesting. I am trying to understand the reason why we should give copies. If you have three copies, and at POE they take one and return two, how does that harm you. I mean what is the point of keeping all three if there eligibility is 1 year and you don't expect to go out of the country a second time.

On a side note, It appears that false propaganda is being spread about our taxes and SS contributions we make to raise more anti feelings about us.
To the contrary we contribute to the SS coffers without making use of it. We need to counter this.

thanks for explaining. my suggestion then is to go to school on F1 (maybe ?) and get a degree that can help him/her get a job that qualifies under H1b.

It is sad to say the thread started by one of the senior member on similar lines was closed abruptly for discussion.I know IV's main intension is to help on immigration front but it won't be too different to help other immigrant brothers trapped in situations like this.

only difference between GC and Citizenship. Ofocurse if you do
something bad you will goto jail and no deportation :D

Incorrect. There are LOT of differences.
1. Visa free travel to many countries
2. No need to maintain GC status, even if I spend >1 year out of US
3. Can work on jobs that require Security Clearance
4. Can sponsor GC for Parents/Siblings
5. Be part of School PTA

There is no information about RFE.
Also SOFT LUD on April 6 after RFE update on April 3. I wonder why they would update my cases twice in 3 days.

Well Rep Lofgren is one of the two lawmakers in the House who have background in immig. issues (she was an immig. attorney).
If she doesn't have an obligation to solve immig. issue who else will have? It is her expertise and she want to solve the problem. Give her a chance, by supporting her effort on the 3 bills.
WHY is she backing the bill..what is her motivation? or did she just decide to do a gandhi on us all?

When lawmakers support certain bills..its because of the interst groups that back them..not their inner calling!
